another girl's cat

Your autumn voice
I sigh my reply
You stroke my ego
and another girl's cat

The darkness is hazy
My world is anchored
by this phone at my ear
but another girl's cat winds round your legs

You infuse, invade, investigate me
I love your words
You come after my laughter
while another girl's cat jumps into your lap

Our voices become raspy
I scratch my cheek
you scratch my surface
and the chin of another girl's cat

We speak of hearts and minds
of chest constriction and butterflies
but still, there's the matter of that
other girl's cat
